Lochmere

A favorite among Cary homebuyers.

Welcome to Lochmere

With an enviable East Cary location, mature landscaping, and plenty of outdoor recreation areas, Lochmere is a favorite among Cary homebuyers. Built in the mid 80s and early 90s, the Lochmere neighborhood boasts lots of trees, walking and biking trails, 2 community pool locations, tennis and pickleball courts, volleyball courts, and 3 wonderful lakes.

Townhomes in the Glen Echo portion of Lochmere start in the high $200s while s lakefront properties are $1 million+. In general, most single-family homes range in price from the $650,00's to the $850,00''s.

Lochmere has three lakes and three holding ponds:

Loch Lomond is the first lake you see as you enter Lochmere from Kildaire Farm Road. It is surrounded by a 1.1 mile walking trail available to all Lochmere residents. It is used by many residents at all times of day and is a great place for newcomers to meet the neighbors. Wildlife, such as geese, great blue herons, and both resident and migrating duck species, visit the lake daily and share the water with a large population of turtles and fish. There is also a pair of swans who provide graceful scenery and are relaxing to view from the gazebo and swing on the east side of the lake.

Lochmere Lake is a little further down Lochmere Drive and is a bigger lake that has a boat ramp and dock, available to residents only. Boats are restricted to electric trolling motors to maintain serenity on the lake. The lake is surrounded by private property and many of the beautiful homes have their own docks. Bird lovers will enjoy the changing patterns as birds migrate through and join the residents at least temporarily. If you watch closely, during the fall and winter months, you will see a pair of bald eagles.

Highlands Lake is on Loch Highlands Drive, at the main entrance to Lochmere Highlands off Kildaire Farm Road. The lake is surrounded by private property on one side with the other side available for resident use. Many enjoy fishing in this lake, or watching the turtles and heron who also call this home. Beavers, river otters, and migratory birds have also been spotted here on occasion.

The Lochside holding ponds are in the Lochside area and feed into Lochmere Lake. They are home to many migratory birds. There are also several playgrounds throughout the community, a park, Frisbee golf course, as well as many paved walking trails and biking lanes. Lochmere offers 2 pool locations for residents and their guests to enjoy.

There is the Main Pool (located a 500 Lcohmere Drive) with the Main Pool offering a diving board and water slide as well as the Lap Pool which is divided into a 25-yard, 4-lane section for adul lap swimming and water fitness and a shallow section for our young residents. This facility is located near Lake Lochmere. Water fitness classes in the summer for residents are a favorite activity.

The Highlands neighborhood also has a pool and a clubhouse used by many families within Lochmere for social gatherings. The Clubhouse is also home to complimentary yoga classes for residents. The clubhouse and pool are located at 200 Loch Highlands Drive.

There are eight tennis courts are located at the Main Pool facility as well as 4 pickleball/2 tennis courts located at the Highlands facility. Certified tennis pros are on staff to help with your tennis and pickleball games. Programs are available for children, teens, and adults.

While the golf course is not part of Lochmere Association, golfers will love having access to the semi-private Lochmere Golf Club. This friendly club is a favorite with local golf enthusiasts and is located on Kildaire Farm Road just north of the Highlands section of Lochmere.

There is plenty to experience just outside of the Lochmere community as well. Within close proximity are many premium grocery stores and other shopping centers. There are many public and private schools and day cares as well as many churches within a 5-mile radius. A wide variety of restaurants are in the area and just down Kildaire Farm Road is Western Wake Med Hospital. Koka Booth Amphitheatre is close by and hosts outdoor concerts, festivals and family movie nights from spring through fall.

Just across Kildaire Farm Road from the Highlands section is Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve, one of only a few state nature preserves in North Carolina. It has many features such as hiking trails, boardwalks, and an educational center. On the other side of Lochmere is Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve, famous for its massive beech trees.
